Law Force Privacy Policy

Law Force recognises the importance of your privacy.  This Privacy Policy is provided to make you aware of how we generally collect, use and manage personal information, and explains your rights in relation to the personal information that we hold about you.

'Personal information' is defined in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) to mean any information or opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable, whether the information or opinion is true or not and whether the information or opinion is recorded in a material form or not.

Organisations and Individuals

Where this Privacy Policy refers to a party that may be either an individual or an organisation, the reference includes those individuals who are directors, principals, or employees of an organisation, or its associates.

When we deal with organisations, we may collect personal information about such individuals. If you are an organisation and you provide us with personal information or otherwise become aware that we have collected personal information about such individuals, please refer the relevant individuals to this Privacy Policy, and if you are disclosing sensitive personal information about the individual, you must ensure that you are authorised by the relevant individual or by law to disclose any such information to us.

providing legal services to clients;

contracting out functions to external service providers and suppliers (such as barristers, mediators, accountants, expert witnesses, valuers, information providers, marketing contractors, and recruitment personnel);

(d)

improving and marketing our services;

(e)

conducing due diligence enquiries (including assessing credit worthiness);

(f)

maintaining, managing and developing our relationship with clients and potential clients;

(g)

assessing and considering applications from prospective employees, contractors and service providers;

(h)

providing education, training and staff development;

(i)

reviewing and improving our internal systems, training and the services we provide;

(j)

managing insurance;

conducting further searches and enquiries regarding any information you have provided to us;

(l)

collecting additional personal information about you or your associates for our regulatory or prudential purposes;

(m)

complying with our legal and regulatory obligations; and

(n)

to otherwise carry out our functions as professional legal service providers.

How We Collect Information

While we will usually collect personal information directly from the person or organisation to whom the information relates, we may also collect information from third parties including (but not limited to):

information we collect in the course of acting for clients;

(b)

court or tribunal documents and records;

(c)

government agencies;

(d)

regulatory and licensing bodies;

(e)

online searches;

(f)

public registries and publicly available records;

(g)

recruitment agencies;

(h)

credit and other reporting, rating, and searching agencies;

(i)

service provides;

(j)

parties to whom you refer us, including previous employers and referees;

(k)

law enforcement bodies;

(l)

internet and online searches; and

(m)

social media.

Job Applicants

We typically collect and hold the following kinds of personal information about job applicants:

(a)

your name and contact details;

(b)

a copy of your resume and the information it contains;

(c)

conducting our business of a legal services provider;

(d)

your educational details, copies of academic and other transcripts;

(e)

your employment history;

(f)

references from past employers and referees;

(g)

results of our due diligence background enquiries; and

(h)

information collected during the interview and assessment process.

In the course of collecting the above types of information, we may collect sensitive information such as membership of a political, professional or trade association, criminal or adverse vocational records, and health information.

Direct Marketing

If you are a client or have otherwise expressed interest and provided us with your contact details, we may send emails to you providing information about legal issues we think may be of interest to you and marketing our services.

If you do not wish for us to send you such emails, please let us know by unsubscribing from our email notifications where indicated on the email, emailing us by clicking the 'Contact Us' button and informing us that you no longer wish to receive our emails, or writing to our Privacy Officer at the details below.

Access to your personal information

You have a statutory right to request access to personal information that we hold about you and request its correction if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. You may do so by writing to our Privacy Officer at the details below. We will respond to all requests for access to or correction of personal information within a reasonable period (usually 30 days).

In some cases, in accordance with the Privacy Act, we may charge you a fee for access to personal information we hold about you or refuse to give you access to personal information we hold about you.

Complaints

If you would like to complain about a breach of the Australian Privacy Principles, you may contact our Privacy Officer (details below).

We will respond to complaints within a reasonable period of time (usually 30 days). If you disagree with our decision, you may refer your complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner by:

Changes to Our Privacy Policy

From time to time we may update our Privacy Policy. Upon updating our Privacy Policy, we shall notify you of the updated version of the Privacy Policy by posting the updated version on our website at www.lawforce.com.au.  The updated version will replace the earlier version upon being posted on webpage. Please check our website from time to time to ensure you are familiar with our latest Privacy Policy.
